Event and wedding lighting on the Amalfi Coast and around Naples

Where we work

We are based just outside Naples and light events across Campania: villas on the Amalfi Coast, masserie on the Sorrento peninsula, historic courtyards in Naples, gardens on Capri and Ischia.

It matters because coastal venues have their own constraints. Many of the best positions have no power where the light needs to be, several are protected buildings where nothing can be fixed to the stonework, and an exposed terrace in August behaves differently from a sheltered cloister.

The venue disappears at dusk — unless someone lights it

This is the part that surprises couples and planners who have only seen the venue in daylight.

A villa, an olive grove, a cloister: they hold themselves in the afternoon sun. After sunset, if nobody lights them, they simply go dark — and what remains is an island of table light surrounded by nothing.

Architectural lighting brings them back:

• uplighting at the base of façades, columns and arches, which redraws the building from below
• beams across pergolas and pathways, giving depth to the spaces guests move through
• warm light on trees, hedges and garden edges, so the perimeter is not a black wall
• chosen colour rather than default: amber and gold for a warm, classic register, cooler tones for something more contemporary

Guests rarely notice it consciously. They just find the place more beautiful in the evening than it was in the afternoon.

Lighting and photography

Worth saying, because almost nobody raises it before the day and it matters a great deal afterwards.

After sunset your photographer works with whatever light we give them. Heavily saturated colour on faces is difficult to correct; too little light forces the ISO up and costs quality. Warm, well-distributed light with faces naturally lit is what produces the pictures you keep.

If you have a photographer or videographer, we talk to them beforehand. It costs nothing and changes the result.

Gardens where there is no power

Some of the best things to light are exactly where no socket reaches: the far end of a garden, a single tree, a low wall along the path.

For those we use battery fixtures with wireless control. No cable runs across a lawn, nothing to hide, nothing for guests to trip over — and they can be placed where the light should be rather than where the power happens to be.

Someone has to run the cues

Scenes are programmed in advance, but a person has to fire them at the right moment — and the right moment is never exactly the one on the schedule.

A lighting technician follows the evening: if the cake is twenty minutes late, the light is twenty minutes late with it. It is the same principle behind how we run sound and video.

What to tell us

The venue, the date, which spaces will be used and whether there is a façade or garden worth lighting. For outdoor venues and for architectural work a site visit changes the design considerably: light is decided by looking, not from a floor plan.
